Greetings from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Tirupati!
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at IIT Tirupati currently runs a Ph.D. program and contributes core and elective courses for the B. Tech. curriculum. In terms of its structure, the department is unique as it finds itself at the confluence of several disciplines. It is currently home to faculty from Philosophy, English, Economics, and Management studies. The wide range of courses that it offers, reflects this diversity.
Even as we focus on building our Ph.D. program and strengthening our contribution to the B. Tech. curriculum, the department is already exploring the possibility of hosting a post-graduate program in the coming years. Through an innovative line-up of courses and problem-based, participatory pedagogy, we hope to be able to train new cohorts of skilled professionals who can contribute to our society in meaningful ways. Parallel to these efforts the department also aims to project itself as a center of research excellence in humanities and social sciences. Our faculty has undertaken consultancies, have garnered externally funded projects and their research has appeared in leading national and international journals as well. It is hoped that in the coming years, we can build on these efforts and scale even higher heights.
